“Whatever my practice may be, I believe that [water] is the only drink for a wise man, and only the foolish habitually use any other.” Henry David Thoreau in his Journal.
The city of Salt Lake City recently installed a massive new water tank on the hills above the city near Fort Douglas. As I walked up the slope, the stone supports for the tank looked like a military fortification.

After the tank was installed, an extensive
program was implemented to restore the native vegetation and reduce erosion.
Matting installed on the slopes that were affected by construction. Note the rock trenches to allow drainage. |
Mating was placed on the soil surface.

The original vegetation is grasslands and oak
thickets.
